About Us

"Welcome to The Lamp of Knowledge Micro-School! I appreciate the opportunity to share my heart and vision with you!

Perhaps you have inquired about your child’s learning opportunities or you are just simply curious

about The Lamp of Knowledge. Regardless, I am happy to share our micro school with you!"

The Lamp of Knowledge was created in 2021 to provide families with an educational solution during these uncertain times. This being our first year we thank you and very much appreciate the trust you're installing in our program to mold your young minds. Our goal is to deliver an excellent education with YOUR child’s strengths and needs at the center of everything! We believe children thrive in small, student-centered classrooms where learning is a Joy and experiences go beyond four walls!

The Lamp of Knowledge is a small school offering students a personalized and exemplary education. The word “micro-school” is used to describe a unique learning set-up much like a one-room schoolhouse where homeschooling and private school collide for a rich and authentic experience! At The Lamp of Knowledge, students receive far more individualized attention than they would receive in a traditional school. The Lamp of Knowledge offers closer adult-child relationships in which teachers serve as facilitators of student-led learning, not just deliverers of content. Here, students are given the parameters to pursue a rich and authentic way of learning and serving others. Our school has exploration at the center of learning! Here, students are given the chance to experience learning at greater depths through projects, community service, field trips, and unique celebrations. In addition to reading, writing, math, science, and history, students are engaged with music, arts/crafts, experiments, and the great outdoors!

About Me

My name is Sarina Acevedo, I am 34 years old, and I am a fully credentialed teacher. As the daughter of a retired Navy Vet, I was born in Japan. My dad was stationed in Yokosuka for 3 years before moving back to California. My mom is a strong influence on why I am a teacher. She taught through my childhood, where I spent my time helping and later tutoring in the classroom. In highschool, I had my own classroom as an after school program mentor. In my early college years I had my own space in an office where I would independently coach high need students. Once I graduated with a bachelors from CSUB I dedicated myself to substitute teaching until I landed as an intern in 2016 at Ducor Unified School District. Three years into teaching I was asked to take part in an MTSS (multi-tiered system of support) to target struggling students in that elementary school where I serve as part of a leadership team. My intention for sharing this background is for you to know - I was DEDICATED to the core while in public school. I was invested during that season of life. But eventually, God changed my heart.

The years spent in public school were precious. But the truth be told, my heart has longed for more. I desire for children to learn authentically, naturally, and without limitations. I realized I could no longer fit inside a box. God has called The Lamp of Knowledge to be a vast mission field where learning goes far beyond mandates, assessments, and standardized learning. We are a learning environment where creativity is embraced, moments are filled with laughter and children never want to leave! Truth be told, The Lamp of Knowledge is a positive environment where kids have the freedom to be children! When school, home, and community work together, we do an incredible job of preparing children to be lifelong learners, while also having productive and fulfilling lives. Children feel safe, seen, heard, and cared for when there is a positive partnership between teachers and parents/guardians. With strong lines of communication and anchored relationships, students have increased participation, confidence, and higher levels of achievement!
